
A 25-year-old man was fighting for his life Monday after being shot in the head in a daytime attack on Chicago’s Far South Side, a jarring scene in the Roseland neighborhood that drew an active police response.
What happened
The shooting unfolded around 2:13 p.m. Monday in the 11000 block of South Vernon Avenue, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Police said the 25-year-old was standing on the street when an unidentified shooter opened fire, hitting him in the head.

The 11000 block of South Vernon has a history of gun violence, with both fatal and nonfatal shootings reported there in recent years. As noted by the Chicago Sun-Times, earlier victims from that same block have been rushed to major hospitals, illustrating a troubling pattern of shootings on the Far South Side.
Hospital and investigation
The latest victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn and was listed in critical condition, according to FOX 32 Chicago. Advocate Christ Medical Center operates a Level I trauma center on 95th Street, according to the hospital’s site. No arrests had been reported as of Monday evening, and detectives were still investigating.
