Boston police say a 20-year-old Roxbury man wanted on multiple warrants is now facing new gun charges after officers chased him from outside Marcella Park and found a loaded Glock with a defaced serial number nearby.

Officers arrested Maleeak Effee on Monday after spotting a group loitering near Marcella Park and watching one man take off running, according to the Boston Police Department. Police say Effee sprinted away and reached toward his waistband, which was enough for officers to move in.

He was later detained outside 226 Highland Street, where officers recovered a Glock 33 near the spot where he was handcuffed, police said. According to the department, the firearm was loaded with one round in the chamber and nine rounds in the magazine, and its serial number had been defaced.

Effee is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple firearms-related charges. Police said no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

According to the Boston Police Department, officers assigned to District B-3, with assistance from the Youth Violence Strike Force, were patrolling outside 80 Marcella Street when they saw the group and watched the suspect bolt while grabbing at his waistband. Officers later apprehended Effee on Highland Street and recovered the Glock near where he was taken into custody.

Police say Effee had three outstanding warrants out of local courts at the time of his arrest, including warrants connected to prior firearm offenses, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and possession of ammunition. He is expected to face multiple counts at his upcoming Roxbury District Court arraignment, according to the department.

Arrest Background and Prior Encounters

The Monday arrest is the latest in a series of law-enforcement encounters involving Effee, according to public records. The Boston Police district journal lists an arrest of Maleeak Effee on June 1, 2025, for receiving a stolen motor vehicle, according to the Boston Police Department district journal.

His name also appears in a November 2025 Norwood police log entry connected to an armed robbery and weapons investigation, per the Norwood Record police logs. Those records describe calls for service and reported incidents; any formal charges or case outcomes would be reflected separately in court documents.

What the Charges Could Mean

Massachusetts law does not treat gun cases lightly. Carrying a firearm without a license can trigger a mandatory minimum jail term, with additional penalties if the weapon is loaded, and defacing a firearm’s serial number is a separate crime under state law. The statutory framework and related sentencing guidance describing these penalties are laid out in Mass. General Laws c. 269 § 10 and the Boston Municipal Court sentencing bench book.

According to the Boston Police Department, officers from District B-3 and the Youth Violence Strike Force were involved in Effee’s arrest and firearm recovery. Formal charges, case status, and court dates will be confirmed through Roxbury District Court records.
