Bexar County deputies are on the hunt for Daniel Hernandez, a registered sex offender originally convicted in California who now has an active arrest warrant after he failed to complete his annual registration in San Antonio. Investigators say Hernandez came in to register in December but did not have a valid Texas identification, became frustrated, and left without verifying his information. Authorities describe him as about 5 feet 7 inches tall and roughly 167 pounds, with his last known home listed on the city’s East Side.
According to KABB/FOX San Antonio, Hernandez was convicted in California of third-degree rape involving a victim younger than 17 and possession of a sexual performance by a child. Deputies say those convictions require him to remain on the sex offender registry for life. The sheriff’s office reports that a warrant was secured for his arrest after he did not follow local registration requirements.
Last Known Address and How to Report Tips
Deputies list Hernandez’s last known address as a residence on Stockport Drive on the East Side. Anyone who may have seen him or knows where he is can call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency dispatch line at 210-335-6000 or the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force tip line at 210-657-8500. Deputies caution the public not to approach anyone believed to be Hernandez and to call authorities or 911 instead.
What Failure to Register Means Under Texas Law
Under Texas law, failing to comply with sex offender registration rules is itself a crime and can bring felony charges, with penalties that vary depending on how often the person is required to verify their information. The Code of Criminal Procedure’s Chapter 62 spells out registration duties, including rules for people registering from out of state, as well as the penalties for not following those rules.
Authorities emphasize that community tips play a big role in keeping neighborhoods safer and urge anyone with information to call the numbers listed above or reach out to Crime Stoppers. For any immediate danger or active sightings, call 911.
