San Jose rolled out of bed under a blanket of low clouds and patchy fog this morning, with Mineta San José International sitting at about 54°F. The gray should peel back by late morning, and inland neighborhoods are on track to climb into the upper 70s by mid- to late afternoon.
Foggy Mornings, Sunny Afternoons
Patchy fog is expected before 8 AM, then mostly sunny skies and a high near 78°F, with west-northwest winds in the 1–10 mph range. According to the National Weather Service, bayside and coastal communities will stay cooler, while inland areas will push into the mid- to upper 70s. As onshore flow strengthens late in the day, temperatures could slip a few degrees.
Afternoon Winds And Bay Conditions
Winds will ramp up through the afternoon, especially over the bay and along exposed ridgelines, turning the water choppy and making conditions less friendly for smaller boats. Boaters in exposed areas should tie down loose gear and be ready for elevated swells that may hang on into the evening. On the roads, early fog and occasional gusts through low-lying corridors mean it is a good day to build in extra braking room on the commute.
Weekend Cooldown And Light Rain Chance
A Pacific low is set to move inland tomorrow, knocking temperatures down for the weekend and bringing a shot at light rain next Sunday night into Monday, May 3–4. The National Weather Service expects most of the precipitation to stay on the light side, from just traces to a few hundredths of an inch, though drizzle or brief showers could hang around into early next week. If you are planning to be outside late next Sunday or Monday, a light jacket and compact umbrella would not be overkill.
Commute Tips
Plan for a few extra minutes on morning drives through low-lying approaches and stick with low-beam headlights in foggy patches. Cyclists and pedestrians should wear bright or reflective clothing during the early, gray hours, and anyone heading out on the water should check local marine conditions before launching. No watches or warnings are in effect for Santa Clara County at this time.
