A 27-year-old Sanford man was taken into custody today after what deputies say was a 110 mph chase that started in Lake Mary and wrapped up in Sanford. According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, identified as Sungchul Lim, hit freeway-level speeds on local roads before the pursuit came to a stop. No injuries were reported, and Lim was arrested at the scene.
As reported by WFTV, the chase began when a Lake Mary officer tried to pull Lim over for a traffic stop, and he allegedly refused to stop. Investigators say the vehicle reached about 110 mph in a 65 mph zone and that Lim now faces charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement and excessive speeding. According to the station’s report, authorities documented the incident in a police report.
State law and possible penalties
Under Florida law, fleeing or attempting to elude an officer can be filed as a misdemeanor or upgraded to a felony, depending on details such as whether the officer’s lights and siren were activated. The statute that outlines those offenses and the potential penalties is Florida Statutes §316.1935. The full text is available through the Florida Senate.
Driver's explanation and booking
Detectives told WFTV that Lim claimed he did not realize officers were trying to pull him over. According to the report, he said his mirrors were not adjusted properly, and the music inside his car was too loud for him to notice the emergency lights or hear the sirens. The outlet reports that Lim was being held on a $5,500 bond following his arrest.
