A man in his mid-20s was killed Sunday afternoon in a three-vehicle crash on the 6900 block of Schindler Drive in Jacksonville, where a Toyota Camry rolled and threw its driver from the car. Jacksonville Fire Rescue later pronounced the man dead at the scene, and lanes were shut down while sheriff's deputies and emergency crews worked the crash site.
How the crash unfolded
According to News4JAX, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened at about 2:40 p.m. A Chevrolet SUV was stopped southbound on Schindler Drive, waiting to turn left onto Huntington Woods Drive, when a Toyota Camry driven by a younger man moved into the oncoming northbound lane.
As the Chevrolet began its turn, its left front struck the right rear of the Camry. The impact sent the Camry off the roadway, where it rolled and collided with a Nissan SUV. The Camry’s driver was ejected during the collision and was pronounced dead by Jacksonville Fire Rescue when crews arrived.
Where this fits in Duval's toll
As Action News Jax reported, the sheriff’s office said this wreck is the 64th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, adding to a grim running tally on local roads.
The rising count is part of what city planners are trying to confront. The City of Jacksonville’s Vision Zero Action Plan lays out engineering, enforcement and education strategies intended to cut down on serious and fatal crashes, according to the City of Jacksonville.
