
A 40-year-old man was killed in a shooting on the southern edge of Florence on Saturday afternoon, turning the 100 block of Railroad Avenue into an active crime scene. The shooting happened around 2:25 p.m., and authorities are calling it an isolated incident. State investigators with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are assisting the Florence Police Department with the case.
In a post on CBI Colorado, the agency said the shooter called 911, is cooperating with investigators, and that the victim died from a gunshot wound. The post noted that the victim’s identity is being withheld until identification is made and will be released by the Fremont County coroner.

Florence police asked residents to stay away from the area around Railroad Street while officers and partner agencies worked the scene, and a nearby bulk-water station was temporarily closed. Officers remained on scene Saturday afternoon and the investigation was described as active and ongoing, as reported by KKTV.

State investigators said the shooter contacted 911 and is cooperating with law enforcement.
