A midweek skate night at the Neville Roller Drome on Neville Island took a jarring turn when gunfire broke out after a verbal argument, according to police. The incident drew a large response from law enforcement, but officials said there were no reported injuries and no vehicles were struck.
Allegheny County dispatchers told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that calls began coming in around 9 p.m. Officers quickly converged on the rink on Neville Road, and reporters at the scene saw police tape strung across the entrance, according to WTAE.
Long-running rink, big crowds on event nights
The Neville Roller Drome promotes itself as one of the region’s long-standing skating spots, with public sessions and themed nights that pull in families and adults. Its website highlights regular adult skates and busy weekend sessions, a setup that often means big crowds on the floor during special events, according to Neville Roller Drome. That popularity has left regulars especially rattled by Wednesday’s disruption.
Police: Verbal altercation led to shots fired
Ohio Township’s police chief told Action News 4 that a verbal dispute broke out among a group of people during the event at the rink. The chief said one individual then fired multiple shots into the air. Authorities reported that no one was hurt and no vehicles were damaged, and they have not said how many people were involved or whether anyone was taken into custody as the investigation continues, per WTAE.
Onlookers and social posts
Not long after the initial calls, social media started lighting up with reports of a major police response on Neville Island. One Reddit user described seeing “a dozen or more police vehicles” near the rink around 9 p.m., and user-posted photos showed cruisers clustered in the area. Reddit users were among the first to share images from the scene.
Officials had released a few specifics as of Wednesday night, and the case remains under investigation. This story will be updated if authorities provide additional details.
