A Saturday night drive on Wallisville Road turned deadly when a speeding red Cadillac crashed into two 18-wheelers and became wedged beneath one of them in northeast Houston, according to Houston police. The violent wreck left the car pinned under a semitrailer near Kress Street, blocking lanes as emergency crews rushed in.
The driver, who was the only person in the Cadillac, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators with the Houston Police Department’s Vehicular Crimes Division stayed on site late into the night, documenting the crash and piecing together what happened.
Houston police say the collision happened around 10 p.m. and that there were no other occupants in the car, according to KHOU. The outlet reports the Cadillac struck both big rigs and ended up under one of the 18-wheeler’s tires, where first responders found the driver unresponsive. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name while the investigation continues.
Speeding and Crash Trends in Houston
This fatal crash adds to a grim pattern on Houston’s high-speed corridors, where deadly wrecks tied to speeding have become alarmingly routine. The city recorded a record number of roadway deaths in 2024, and safety advocates point to speeding and wide, fast arterials as key factors, according to Houston Public Media. Those advocates argue that pairing street design changes with targeted enforcement could help drive down the number of severe crashes.
At the Scene
Witnesses told officers the Cadillac appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed before impact, according to KHOU. When first responders arrived, they found the car lodged beneath one of the trucks, and police shut down lanes so tow crews and investigators could clear the wreckage and examine the scene in detail.
Officials have not yet said whether impairment or any other factors were involved. HPD is asking anyone with video or information about the crash to contact the department. This story will be updated as authorities release more details.
