As of today, San Diego is starting off clear, with temperatures around 59°F at San Diego International Airport. The day is set up for a mostly sunny afternoon, with a high near 69°F and southwest breezes picking up as we head into the late afternoon.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
High temperatures should peak around 69°F today, with southwest winds generally between 0 and 10 mph, gusting to 20 mph. Tomorrow and Saturday, inland neighborhoods will run a bit warmer, with daytime highs in the low 70s near the valleys and mid-70s farther inland. According to the National Weather Service in San Diego, the gradual warming trend will continue, keeping afternoons consistently breezy through the weekend.
Coastal Mornings And Sea Fog
Night and morning, low clouds are expected to push into parts of the inland valleys today and tomorrow, then mostly hug the western valleys from tomorrow night into Saturday morning. Coastal fog and low clouds should lift and scatter by late morning each day, leaving the shoreline with mostly sunny afternoons.
Cooler Early Next Week, Spotty Showers Possible
A closed low moving onshore next Sunday, May 3, is forecast to cool things down next Monday, May 4, with inland highs dipping several degrees below normal. There is a chance for mostly light showers from next Sunday night through next Tuesday, May 5, and onshore flow will strengthen, which means mountain passes and nearby deserts could see gusts in the 30–40 mph range. No watches or warnings are currently in effect for the San Diego area.
What To Know For Plans
Outdoor plans look good today and through the weekend, but it would be wise to secure loose patio furniture before those breezier afternoons kick in. Hikers, cyclists and drivers crossing exposed canyons and passes should be ready for higher gusts from next Sunday into next Tuesday.
