A teenage boy was shot and killed Friday near a high school in Northeast Washington, D.C., in a killing that kept a large police presence on the block well into the evening, authorities said. Officers arrived to find the teen suffering from gunshot wounds, and he was later pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department has launched a homicide investigation into the shooting, according to WUSA9. The station reported that officials had not immediately released the victim’s name or any information about a possible suspect, and that detectives were canvassing the surrounding blocks in search of witnesses and video.
Violence Has Surged in Pockets of the City This Month
The killing adds to a grim streak of shootings across the District in April. The Washington Post reported earlier this week that D.C. recorded seven homicides over a five day stretch this month, including two boys who were killed in Northeast neighborhoods.
