Somewhere in Oakland, one lucky Fantasy 5 player is suddenly a lot richer after buying a ticket at the Chevron on Telegraph Avenue that hit for a $173,880 top prize in Tuesday’s drawing. The winning ticket matched all five numbers: 14, 19, 33, 37 and 38. Lottery officials list the winning retailer as the Chevron at 5500 Telegraph Ave in Oakland, and there was just one top-prize ticket sold statewide.
How the win was confirmed
According to the California Lottery, yesterday's draw (Draw #11861) produced the winning numbers 14, 19, 33, 37 and 38. The Lottery’s results page identifies the Chevron at 5500 Telegraph Ave as the only retailer that sold a top-prize ticket for the $173,880 payout and also lists the breakdown of lower-tier winners from that same draw.
At the Chevron
In an interview with The Mercury News, a station employee said staff knew a winning ticket had been sold there and that “we're happy, we're excited for the person.” Employees did not identify the buyer and described the mood at the station as more quietly celebratory than wild jackpot frenzy.
What winners need to know
The California Lottery notes that winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim a Fantasy 5 prize. Larger wins that exceed small retail payout limits must be processed at a Lottery district office or by mail. Officials advise winners to sign the back of the ticket right away and store the original in a safe place until the claim is filed.
The game and the odds
Fantasy 5 is a nightly $1-per-play draw game that typically offers smaller but steadier top prizes than the big multi-state jackpots. The odds of matching all five numbers in the April 28 draw were about 1 in 575,757, according to a results summary for that draw from Lottery Post.
If you bought a Fantasy 5 ticket at the Telegraph Avenue Chevron and those numbers look familiar, sign the slip, stash it somewhere secure and contact Lottery officials or visit a district office to start the claim process. The following night’s Fantasy 5 jackpot was estimated at roughly $74,000, according to The Mercury News.
