For years it was where you went to fix a flat. Soon, if all goes according to plan, it will be where you go for a bottle of wine and a sunny patio table.
Galore Market, a patio-forward neighborhood spot from the team behind O4W Market, is transforming the former discount tire shop at 2711 E. College Ave. in Avondale Estates. After earlier delays, the standalone market is now aiming for a late spring debut that owners say will finally give the western edge of downtown a place to grab groceries and linger outside.
The two-story property was marketed as a 4,800-square-foot commercial building with about 15 parking spaces, and marketing materials note that more than 17,000 vehicles pass the site each day. That same listing also points out that the Avondale MARTA station is roughly a block west and serves around 4,300 daily riders, a key selling point for brokers courting tenants. According to LoopNet, the parcel was positioned for either retail or office reuse.
Fresh work on the facade and patios is easy to spot in recent progress photos, and the Arcadia Avenue side now sports a mural by Arrrtaddict. Plans call for roughly 2,300 square feet of interior retail space, about 700 square feet of outdoor patios, an upstairs unit available for lease, and a lineup that includes organic groceries along with beer and wine. Galore Market had originally circled an October opening, but according to broker Michael Wess, the team is now targeting a June 1 debut, as reported by Urbanize Atlanta.
Where it sits: Complete Street and transit access
The market’s corner lot anchors the western end of Avondale Estates’ recent Complete Street overhaul of U.S. Highway 278. That project trimmed travel lanes, added a 10-foot multimodal path and upgraded pedestrian crossings, all intended to support outdoor seating and safer walking along the corridor. City updates indicate that most of the major infrastructure work wrapped earlier this year, leaving the stretch better set up for patio dining and foot traffic. According to the City of Avondale Estates, remaining punch-list items were expected to be finished in early 2026.
A second outpost less than half a mile away
Galore Market is also planned for a second location inside the Halo East Decatur development at 715 East College Ave., less than half a mile away along the same corridor. The larger Halo project is set to bring hundreds of apartments and a built-in base of retail customers over the coming year, creating steady weekday demand for neighborhood goods and services. As detailed by Urbanize Atlanta, representatives say the Halo outpost will be integrated into the mixed-use building, while the freestanding Avondale shop will cater more to passersby and patio gatherings.
Why it matters: neighborhood retail and incoming residents
Smaller grocers and quick-stop markets are becoming increasingly important along East College Avenue as new apartments and mixed-use projects bring thousands of additional residents to the area. Local reporting has also highlighted larger grocery efforts, including a planned Publix at the Candler Crossing development, that aim to fill the void left by recent store closures and meet demand for everyday food options. As reported by The Champion Newspaper, these projects together reflect a broader push to restore day-to-day retail along the corridor.
The Galore team, which already operates O4W Market in the Old Fourth Ward, is betting that a compact, curated market with generous patio space will complement, not compete with, the larger grocers slated for the neighborhood. If the June 1 timeline holds, Galore Market will be among the first small businesses to put Avondale’s newly walkable block through its paces this summer.
