A Maryland State Police trooper shot a knife-wielding man who advanced on her during a call Thursday afternoon in Chester, Queen Anne's County, authorities said. The confrontation unfolded around 3:40 p.m. on the unit block of Sherman Way. The man was treated at the scene, then flown to a nearby shock-trauma center. No other injuries were reported.

Troopers from the Centreville Barrack were dispatched after a 911 caller reported a man making threats while armed with a knife, according to Maryland State Police. While one trooper was talking with the complainant, officials say the man moved toward her with the knife. The trooper then fired her agency-issued firearm, hitting him.
Per department policy, the trooper has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation plays out.
Medical Aid And Scene Response
First responders provided medical aid at the scene before the man was airlifted by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to a local shock-trauma center, as reported by WMAR-2 News. Deputies from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office and state crime-scene technicians processed the area. Officials said there were no additional injuries.
Probe Involving Homicide And Internal Affairs Units
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation in consultation with the Office of the State’s Attorney for Queen Anne’s County, and the department's Internal Affairs unit is conducting a separate review, according to state police. Authorities described the case as active and said more information will be released as it becomes available.
