A Valley Stream man is accused of turning a day at Arthur J. Hendrickson Park into a rough ride, allegedly swerving his bicycle at several parkgoers before head-butting a Nassau County police officer while being secured in a patrol car. Police say the officer suffered a head contusion and was taken to a hospital for treatment, and that a switchblade was recovered as part of the investigation. The suspect was later found at his home, according to authorities.

Park confrontation

According to News 12, the episode began on Sunday, April 12, when 21-year-old Matthew Nunez allegedly swerved his bicycle at a 45-year-old roller skater in Hendrickson Park, causing her to fall. News 12 reports that the woman later returned and told police she saw the same man swerve at two elderly women, which prompted her to call officers.

Arrest and alleged assault on officer

As reported by Daily Voice, Nassau County officers located Nunez at his Camdike Street home and say they recovered a switchblade during a search. Police told Daily Voice that while officers were securing Nunez in a patrol car he became combative and allegedly head-butted an officer. According to the outlet, the injured officer was treated at a hospital for a head contusion.

Charges and investigation

News 12 says Nunez was charged with assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal trespass. The Nassau County Police Department is continuing to investigate the incidents.
