A Las Vegas home that police say doubled as a neighborhood drug hub was raided by a SWAT team after months of surveillance, and the man accused of running it is now facing a stack of felony charges. Clark County School District police say the house sat within walking distance of several campuses and that kids were among the customers.

Investigators identified the suspect as Jeremiah Cochran and said the warrant was served on March 10 after an extended investigation, according to 8 News Now. The outlet reports that officers first detained a teen on March 3 after the youth left the residence and that the house is close to Helen M. Smith Elementary, McWilliams Elementary, Gibson Middle School and Western High School.

District police say they were watching the property

Because the home sits so close to active campuses, the Clark County School District Police Department took the lead on both surveillance and the criminal case. The agency, which runs an Operation Crime Free Schools hotline and works with Metro and other local partners, lays out on its school-safety pages how tips, patrols and joint investigations are used to keep students and staff safe. Parents and guardians who spot potential problems on or near schools can use the district’s posted safety resources and contact information to report concerns.

What officers say they found and the charges

During the search, officers say they seized a handgun, a rifle, about 15 pounds of marijuana, roughly 3.4 pounds of THC concentrate, 60 grams of cocaine, 205 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and more than 100 THC vape pens. Investigators also pointed to social media photos that they say show Cochran posing with guns, cash and marijuana.

The arrest report cited by 8 News Now states that Cochran was booked on allegations that include contributing to the delinquency or negligence of a minor, selling or supplying controlled substances in the presence of children, two counts of ownership or possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession with intent to sell schedule I or II substances. According to the same report, Cochran is currently out on bail and is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court in July.

Legal implications

The charges carry potentially serious penalties under Nevada law. Opening or maintaining a place for unlawful drug sales is a felony under NRS 453.316, which sets out possible prison terms and fines for operating a drug house, and NRS 202.360 bars certain people from owning or possessing firearms and makes violations a felony. These statutes form the framework prosecutors are likely to rely on if the case is pursued. Justia and FindLaw outline the relevant penalties.

The arrests and drug seizures drew particular concern because of the home’s proximity to four schools and because investigators say children were among the buyers. CCSDPD’s public materials list a tip line and other resources for families and staff who have school safety concerns, and the district says it will continue coordinating with law enforcement as Cochran’s case moves through the courts.
