A routine welfare check in a quiet McMinnville neighborhood turned into a grim crime scene Monday afternoon, after officers found two people dead inside a home on Cherokee Drive. Police identified the victims as 46-year-old Manda Perkins and 54-year-old Clarence Hudson, both with apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators say early findings point to a murder-suicide, with Hudson accused of shooting Perkins before killing himself.

According to a release posted on Facebook, detectives with the McMinnville Police Department processed the scene with help from the 31st Judicial District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Officers were dispatched for a welfare check at about 4:20 p.m., and preliminary findings indicate Hudson shot Perkins before dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, WSMV reported.
Victims identified
Police publicly identified the two people killed as Perkins, 46, and Hudson, 54. Authorities have not released a possible motive or additional context surrounding the incident, according to WKRN.
Next steps in the probe
Detectives are still processing evidence and tracking down leads as the investigation remains active. Officials are asking anyone with information to contact the McMinnville Police Department. The department’s Facebook post shared the initial details but did not list a case number, and investigators say the case is very much still open.
