A late-night gunfight in a West Dallas motel parking lot left one man dead and two others wounded yesterday, turning a stretch of Fort Worth Avenue into an active crime scene just after 10 p.m.
Officers responding to the 2800 block of Fort Worth Avenue found a man dead in the lot and two other people suffering from gunshot wounds. Police quickly cordoned off the area as detectives moved in to collect shell casings, review the scene and search for witnesses.
According to WFAA, investigators believe the violence started as an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles in the motel parking lot. Police told the outlet that both men in the second vehicle were hit. One was taken from the scene to a hospital, while the other took off but was later found down the road and also transported for treatment. A female passenger was taken to police headquarters for questioning.
Investigation Underway
“Dallas police continue to investigate the shooting,” officers told WFAA. Detectives spent last night processing the scene and canvassing the area for anyone who saw or recorded what happened. As of that time, officials had not released the names of the victims.
Fort Worth Avenue Has Seen Violence Before
The deadly shootout is the latest violent incident along the Fort Worth Avenue corridor. In 2021, a man was found fatally shot in a car at the Flora Motel, also in the 2800 block of Fort Worth Avenue, a case in which police released surveillance footage as part of the investigation. The Dallas Morning News has more on that earlier killing.
For last night’s shooting, Dallas police are asking anyone with information or video to come forward and contact investigators. No arrests had been announced as of Wednesday morning, and the department said the investigation remains open.
