Two men were arrested early Thursday after Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies say they recovered a stolen vehicle and a loaded handgun. North Patrol deputies spotted the car at about 3 a.m., then detained 45-year-old Marcus Wandick and 36-year-old Derwin Mulwee as the pair tried to walk away from the scene. The vehicle’s owner later recovered her car at the location, according to officials.

In a post on X from the Sacramento Sheriff, deputies said Wandick was driving the recovered vehicle and had the keys on him when they detained him. According to the same post, he also had a felony no-bail warrant for vehicle theft, along with several misdemeanor warrants.

Deputies said Mulwee tried to stash a backpack, which allegedly contained a loaded .38-caliber handgun and narcotics paraphernalia. The sheriff’s post notes that Mulwee is a convicted felon on felony probation, which means he is barred from having firearms and ammunition. Both men were booked into Sacramento County Main Jail on related charges, the sheriff’s office said.

CBS Sacramento reported in March 2025 that Mulwee was among three suspects detained after an AT&T store burglary in Woodland. That earlier report said he and another suspect were booked into Yolo County Jail on burglary and conspiracy counts. Sheriff officials did not immediately release further details about whether formal charges have been filed in this most recent case.

Evidence Recovered And Next Steps

Deputies recovered the stolen vehicle, the loaded .38 found inside the backpack, and narcotics paraphernalia at the scene, according to the sheriff’s post. The sheriff’s office said the victim was able to get her car back at the scene, while the two suspects were transported to Sacramento County Main Jail as the investigation continues.

Officials did not immediately provide information about where the vehicle was originally stolen or whether investigators expect to make additional arrests.

Local Context

Stolen-vehicle recoveries that turn up firearms have popped up repeatedly across the county in recent months. Hoodline previously covered a similar case in August 2025 when a parolee was arrested after deputies found a loaded weapon in a stolen vehicle during a South Sacramento chase.

The sheriff’s office is encouraging anyone with information about Thursday’s incident to contact the department’s non-emergency line.
