An Austell attorney is facing serious charges after state agents say an undercover operation caught him soliciting sex from a client in Cobb County.
Roger L. Curry, 77, was arrested following a Georgia Bureau of Investigation sting that, according to the agency, turned up evidence of pandering and sexual battery involving a client. He was booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center in Marietta on two counts of pandering and one count of sexual battery, and the case remains under active investigation as agents work through leads and evidence.
In a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the bureau’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking (HEAT) Unit said the probe began in April after a report that Curry had solicited sexual acts from a client. During an undercover operation, investigators say they "discovered evidence of pandering and sexual battery" and arrested Curry late last month. The release identifies him as practicing law at Roger L. Curry, P.C. in Marietta.
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office oversees the county jail roster and visitor details for the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, where Curry was taken after his arrest. The sheriff’s website lists contact information, visitation and mailing rules, and offers a public search tool for booking records and bond information.
What the charges mean
Under Georgia law, pandering is defined as soliciting someone to perform an act of prostitution. The statute is codified at O.C.G.A. § 16-6-12 and published online by Justia.
Sexual battery in Georgia covers the intentional, nonconsensual touching of another person’s "intimate parts." It appears in O.C.G.A. § 16-6-22.1, which is available through Justia, and certain convictions can be treated as felonies with registration requirements in some situations.
The GBI says the HEAT Unit’s work on the case is ongoing and is asking anyone with information, or anyone who believes they had a similar interaction with Curry, to call 404-270-8433 or submit tips online. According to the bureau, once the investigation wraps, the case file will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Public attorney listings identify Curry as the principal of Roger L. Curry P.C., with a Marietta office address and a PO box on file. Those directories describe longstanding practice areas in family and criminal law but do not address the current allegations.
The investigation is still active, and prosecutors will determine whether to seek formal indictments after reviewing the completed GBI file. This story will be updated as court records or official statements become available.
