Wednesday night turned tense on both sides of the District as two separate shootings, reported less than an hour apart, left a teenage boy and an adult man wounded and in the hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. Police rushed to scenes in Northwest and Southeast as detectives opened parallel investigations and again urged residents to speak up if they know anything.
Two Scenes, Minutes Apart
According to WJLA, the first call came in around 8:15 p.m. in the 4900 block of 14th Street NW, where officers found a teen boy suffering from a gunshot wound. Just over 30 minutes later, police were sent racing across town to the 2400 block of Alabama Avenue SE, where an adult man had been shot.
WJLA reported that both victims were taken to area hospitals, conscious and breathing, and were being treated for injuries described as non‑life‑threatening.
Police Response and How to Help
Per a notice from the Metropolitan Police Department, detectives are investigating both shootings and are working to piece together what led up to the violence. Anyone with information is asked to call (202) 727‑9099. The department routinely reminds residents not to confront possible suspects and instead to pass tips directly to investigators.
City Context
The back‑to‑back incidents land in the middle of an ongoing fight at the Wilson Building over how best to curb gun violence and fund prevention programs across the city. The Washington Post has reported that the District’s annual homicide tally fell in 2025 compared with recent spikes, yet officials and community groups say nonfatal shootings and neighborhood flare‑ups like Wednesday’s remain an urgent concern.
