What started as a quiet Tuesday afternoon outside a Baytown nursing home turned chaotic when a man was shot and a multi-agency chase spilled onto Interstate 10. Police say the wounded man was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition, and a suspect is now under arrest.
Shooting near Allenbrook Drive and Birdsong Drive
According to the Baytown Police Department, the shooting happened around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Allenbrook Drive and Birdsong Drive. A woman was speaking with a man who was seated in a vehicle when another man drove by and opened fire, hitting the victim in the leg area. Investigators say the wounded man ran inside the nursing home for help and the woman was not hurt, according to FOX 26 Houston.
Victim flown to hospital, condition stable
Local coverage reports that first responders took the victim to a nearby hospital and that Life Flight responded to the scene. The man was listed in stable condition, ABC13 Houston noted in its early updates.
Pursuit ended in Chambers County
Officers with Chambers County and the Texas Department of Public Safety later spotted the suspect’s vehicle in Chambers County, officials said. They pursued the car along I-10 eastbound until it left the roadway and crashed into a ditch. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident, according to FOX 26 Houston.
Investigators seek information
Authorities have not released the names of either the victim or the suspect and have shared little about a possible motive, ABC13 Houston reported. Baytown police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
