A Tuesday evening commute in north Harris County took a dangerous turn when shots were fired near Tidwell Road and the Sam Houston Beltway, leaving an uninvolved driver wounded and two shooters on the run.
Investigators say two people in separate vehicles opened fire on each other along the roadway. In the middle of that rolling gun battle, a stray round hit the window of a passing driver who had nothing to do with the dispute. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the shooters sped off before deputies arrived.
According to FOX 26 Houston, the exchange of gunfire happened near the intersection of Tidwell and the Beltway and involved two vehicles firing at one another. As of the initial report, Harris County authorities had not released descriptions of the suspects or shared any information about a possible motive.
Recent Incidents Raise Concerns On Tidwell Corridor
The latest shooting adds to growing concern along the Tidwell corridor, which has seen multiple violent incidents this spring tied to confrontations that spiral out of control.
In late April, a dispute at a gas station near U.S. 59 and Tidwell turned into a shootout that ended with three people in handcuffs, according to Click2Houston. During that response, officers also recovered weapons and drugs at the scene, Click2Houston reported.
