New Yorkers are getting a classic spring split this week, starting with a postcard-perfect Tuesday before a midweek soak muscles in Wednesday night into Thursday.
Today
Tuesday kicks off clear and cool, with early morning readings mostly in the upper 40s to low 50s and plenty of sunshine to go around. Afternoon highs should land near 62°F with a light northwest breeze around 6 to 9 mph, which can feel a bit stronger along exposed waterfront stretches. Dry air keeps humidity low, so it is a solid day for errands, a lunch outside or an evening walk. No rain is expected through Tuesday night.
Wednesday Night Into Thursday
The quiet stretch hits a speed bump on Wednesday. Showers are expected to move in during the evening, with rain likely after about 8 p.m. and the best window for showers and thunderstorms running from roughly 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wet weather then lingers into Thursday morning.
Most neighborhoods are forecast to pick up a few tenths of an inch of rain, generally 0.1 to 0.5 inches, with some isolated spots potentially seeing up to 0.75 inches and brief heavy downpours. South winds will ramp up Wednesday night into Thursday, with gusts reaching into the teens and low 20s. That will make it feel blustery overnight. As of Tuesday morning there are no watches or warnings posted, according to the National Weather Service.
Commute, Airports, And The Water
Late Wednesday into early Thursday, wet roads and pockets of heavier rain could slow late-night commutes and make sidewalks slick, so it is worth building in some extra time if you are traveling. Late-night arrivals and early-morning flights Thursday may run into delays from low clouds and reduced visibility.
Out on the water, recreational boaters should be ready for small craft conditions that are expected to develop Wednesday and possibly persist into Wednesday night. It is a good idea to check with your carrier for any flight changes and review the latest marine forecast before heading out.
Weekend Warm-Up
Once this midweek system moves on, a much warmer pattern settles in for the weekend. Saturday is expected to be sunny with highs near 78°F, and Sunday could nudge into the low 80s across many neighborhoods, a prime setup for outdoor plans. Nights will turn milder too, with lows in the 50s and near 60 in the urban core.
