A bomb threat at the Walmart on the 8400 block of Coral Way in Miami brought a heavy law-enforcement response Saturday morning (May 2), cutting shopping trips short as customers and employees were rushed out of the building. Deputies and emergency crews locked down the area while they checked inside the store and swept the parking lot.
Deputies Sweep Coral Way Store
As reported by WSVN, Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the call and carried out a security sweep of the 8400 block of Coral Way. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue told the outlet the threat was unfounded, and officials had not released additional details at the time of reporting.
Threat Tied To Rash Of Recent Hoaxes
The Walmart scare comes amid a string of phoned-in threats that have triggered brief evacuations across the county in recent weeks. CBS Miami reported that security sweeps also cleared Dadeland Mall and Baptist Hospital after similar calls, and Local10 documented heavy police presence at several county schools following threats there. Officials say many of the calls appear to be hoaxes, yet every report is still being treated as credible while investigators track down leads.
What To Do If You Were There
Anyone with information about Saturday's call is asked to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office, whose contact page lists ways to report tips and reach deputies. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office also reminds the public that emergencies should always be reported to 911.
