A quiet northwest Harris County neighborhood turned tense Friday afternoon when a Harris County bomb squad was called in over a suspicious device spotted near Courtland Circle. Deputies quickly set up a perimeter while specialized technicians moved in to figure out exactly what they were dealing with. As of Friday, officials had not released additional details while the investigation remained active.
According to Click2Houston, the Harris County Pct. 4 Constable's Office said a bomb squad was headed to the area near the 16500 block of Courtland Circle. The office asked nearby residents and passing drivers to steer clear while deputies worked to secure the scene and investigate the object. The alert went out Friday afternoon.
Bomb Squad Busy With Year’s Suspicious Calls
This is not the first time this year that Harris County's bomb squad has been pulled into a tense scene. In January, ABC13 reported that crews removed live rounds, hand grenades and improvised devices from a newly purchased home in northeast Harris County on Jan. 12. That incident highlighted why deputies treat any report of an unusual package or device as the real deal until they know otherwise.
What Residents Need To Know
Precinct 4 urged people to “avoid the area while deputies secure the scene and investigate,” according to Click2Houston. If you come across a suspicious object, do not touch it, move it or try to inspect it yourself. Call 911 so trained responders can check it out.
This story will be updated as authorities share more information or clear the scene.
