Bountiful City Police are asking residents to act as amateur detectives after a residential burglary in the first week of May. Investigators released a grainy surveillance image of a person they believe is connected to the break-in and say that blurry or not, it is the strongest lead they have right now. Detectives are hoping someone will recognize the clothing, build, or other small details and call it in. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Williams at 801-298-6156 and reference Case No. B26-08031.
"We are aware that this picture is less than stellar, but we are working with what we have been provided," the department said in a news release, acknowledging the image is far from crystal clear. The photo and call for tips were shared publicly on May 30, when Bountiful police urged residents to come forward if they recognize the person, as reported by Gephardt Daily.
How To Pass A Tip
If you recognize the individual in the image or have your own footage from doorbell or security cameras that might show the same person, police want to hear from you. They ask that you call Detective Williams directly at 801-298-6156 and mention Case No. B26-08031 so the tip gets to the right file.
For general non-emergency reporting or to submit information online instead, Bountiful City Police directs residents to its dispatch line at 801-298-6000 or its tips page, according to Bountiful City Police.
What Investigators Say
Police have not released additional details about what was taken in the burglary or whether any suspects are currently in custody. Instead, they have emphasized that the next steps in the case largely depend on what comes in from the community.
The department’s Criminal Investigations unit handles follow-up on burglary reports and typically routes incoming tips to the detective assigned to the case. That process was outlined in the department’s release, as reported by Gephardt Daily.
Anyone with information is urged once again to contact Detective Williams at 801-298-6156 or call the non-emergency dispatch line at 801-298-6000. Police are reminding residents to secure doors, keep an eye on home-camera footage, and report even small details that might help push the investigation forward.
