An 18-year-old woman was shot near Jerome Avenue just north of Van Cortlandt Park in the early morning hours, according to police. She was hit in the left arm yet still managed to walk into a nearby hospital for help. Police: Victim Walked Into Hospital
Officers from the 50th Precinct were called out around 4:46 a.m. on May 3, responding both to a 911 call and to a walk-in patient at Montefiore Medical Center’s Moses campus at 111 East 210th Street, according to Norwood News. A police spokesperson told the outlet the young woman was shot in the left arm at or near 3751 Jerome Avenue. She arrived at the hospital by private means and was listed in stable condition.
Jerome Avenue Corridor Has Seen Recent Violence
The same stretch of Jerome Avenue past the Woodlawn stop has already seen trouble this spring, including a fatal March shooting near Bainbridge Avenue. Neighbors and local coverage have repeatedly raised concerns about lighting and public safety along the corridor, while detectives continue to canvass the area for witnesses and comb through surveillance footage.
