A 44-year-old man was pistol-whipped and shots were fired inside a Bushwick apartment building Friday night, a violent confrontation that sent him to the hospital but left him expected to recover. The attack happened just after 7 p.m. at 1185 Bushwick Ave. EMS took the victim to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition.
According to police, the 44-year-old was hit in the head with a gun by someone he knew, then the attacker squeezed off multiple rounds inside the building. No one else was struck by the gunfire, authorities said, according to News 12 New York. The NYPD says the investigation is still active, with detectives canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance video as they try to piece together what set off the brazen assault.
A troubling stretch for the neighborhood
The incident adds to what has already been a grim stretch for Bushwick and nearby blocks. Earlier this month, a 7-month-old girl was killed by a stray bullet in a separate shooting, a case that led to charges against a suspect, according to NBC New York. The infant's death triggered vigils and renewed calls from local leaders for action on gun violence.

Just last week, surveillance cameras captured another burst of gunfire that left a 39-year-old man wounded while he sat in his car near Cooper Street and Broadway. Neighbors told reporters they heard multiple shots, and police have said there have been no arrests so far in that case, per News 12 New York.
