Bun B is celebrating 30 years of UGK’s landmark album Ridin’ Dirty with a one-night-only blowout at Sugar Land’s Smart Financial Centre on Friday, August 1. The show is set up as a start-to-finish performance of the album, in order, with guest performers stepping in on verses originally recorded by Pimp C and Mr. 3-2. Deep-cut fans will get a rare treat too, with seldom-heard tracks like “Good Stuff” and “Pinky Ring” slated to be performed live.
Speaking with CultureMap Houston, Bun B called Ridin’ Dirty “the seminal UGK album” and admitted “it's something we'll have to work at to get it right.” According to CultureMap, presales for the “Been Ridin’ Dirty” event open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7, with the general on-sale at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 8. Tickets will be available through the venue’s official ticketing page.
The Smart Financial Centre’s “What’s On” schedule lists “Bun B Presents Been Ridin’ Dirty,” confirming the Sugar Land date and pointing fans to the official ticket channel. Anyone needing seating maps, accessibility details or official offers should go straight to the venue’s calendar. The event listing and venue information are posted on Smart Financial Centre.
Ridin’ Dirty first dropped in late July 1996 and has long been treated as a cornerstone of Southern hip-hop that helped lock in Houston’s sound for the world. AllMusic logs that late July 1996 release date, and retrospective critics have repeatedly circled back to the record’s influence on generations of rappers, including in a later review at Pitchfork.
What To Expect
This is not a loose greatest-hits night. The plan is to run the album front to back, skits included. Bun B says Smoke D, who recorded some of those skits while he was incarcerated, will be onstage to recreate them live. He also told CultureMap he is being very intentional about who jumps on which song, mixing better-known names with artists who “represent what that song represents” so that each guest gets a proper spotlight. The goal is a carefully built, album-length tribute rather than a random parade of cameos.
Bun B is not new to the anniversary playbook. He has used these kinds of shows before, and last year he marked the 20th anniversary of his solo debut Trill with an unplugged celebration that drew serious local interest. Axios covered that Trill Unplugged event and highlighted the format’s mix of stories, stripped-down performance and special guests, suggesting there is already a built-in audience for a full-album Ridin’ Dirty night.
With only one evening on the books and an album this legendary, demand is likely to be heavy. Fans who want in should keep an eye on presale alerts and look over any VIP packages early. The Smart Financial Centre/ATG Tickets calendar will list the official presale windows, ticket types and venue policies, so it is worth checking the venue’s event page for confirmed times and accessibility information before buying.
