One of North Austin’s early Korean-Tex-Mex pioneers has quietly gone dark. Chi’Lantro has closed its North Loop storefront on Burnet Road, ending an 11-year run that helped put kimchi fries and build-your-own bowls on the neighborhood’s regular rotation. The shop shut its doors at the end of April.
Closure Confirmed By Austin Business Journal
The Burnet Road location officially closed on April 30 after the company opted not to renew its lease at the site, as reported by Austin Business Journal. The outlet notes that the restaurant had operated on Burnet Road for 11 years.
Burnet Road Is In Transition
The closure lands at a time when the shopping center at 5222 Burnet Road is already in flux. Crews and “coming soon” signage for a large H Mart build-out have been visible at the property, signaling a major new anchor on the way. The City of Austin’s mobility report also outlines corridor upgrades and new trail connections that are reshaping Burnet Road and encouraging redevelopment activity up and down the stretch.
Company History And Online Listing
Chi’Lantro traces its origins to a single food truck launched in 2010 before expanding into a regional fast-casual chain, a growth story the company details on its Our Story page. Even so, the brand’s own locations page still lists a North Loop/Burnet address, suggesting the corporate site has not yet caught up with the recent closure.
What’s Next
No public announcement has surfaced about a new tenant for the now-vacant unit, and the property’s future use has not been confirmed by the owners or the company. For the moment, the shutdown marks another shift in Burnet Road’s retail mix as larger projects and long-term redevelopment plans continue to reshape the corridor.
