Cheba Hut, the cannabis-themed toasted-sub chain, is bringing its stoner-chic vibe to Greenfield. The brand is set to open a new restaurant at 8871 W. Sura Lane in the 84South shopping complex next Monday, May 11, complete with a full bar, late-night hours and a custom mural. Franchisees say the spot will carry Cheba Hut’s trademark laid-back, late-night feel to Milwaukee’s south side. It will be the chain’s third Milwaukee-area location and adds another dining option for Greenfield and nearby suburbs.

The expansion was first detailed by the Milwaukee Business Journal, which mapped out the sub shop’s place in the 84South retail lineup and the target timing for the debut. That coverage followed months of permitting and physical build-out work at the property.

What to expect inside

On the menu are Cheba Hut’s signature toasted subs, sold in sizes dubbed nugs, pinners and blunts, along with sides, sweets and cocktails, with regular hours set for Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday service running until 2 a.m., per QSR Magazine. The Greenfield restaurant will feature a custom mural by Colorado artist Josh Finley and a full-service bar designed to encourage guests to hang out, not just grab and go.

Franchisees Heather and RC Huhn, who already operate two local Cheba Hut locations, told QSR Magazine they were drawn in by the concept’s food and its atmosphere. The outlet also reports that grand-opening festivities on May 11 will serve up raffles and exclusive Cheba Hut swag for early visitors.

Permits and local approvals

Greenfield’s Common Council signed off on Cheba Hut’s plans late last year, approving a special-use permit and site review for 8871 W. Sura Lane, according to the Common Council minutes. Those minutes describe a roughly 2,600-square-foot build-out with an L-shaped bar offering 13 seats and overall capacity for about 63 diners, and they note that the city approved the proposed bar layout and liquor storage setup.

Where it fits

Cheba Hut will join an already crowded roster of restaurants and retailers at 84South, the open-air center anchored by Fresh Thyme and other national names that Marquee Capital acquired in late 2024. Marquee Capital describes 84South as a high-traffic, mixed-use retail hub serving Greenfield and its neighboring suburbs, and the arrival of another late-night restaurant further cements the complex as a go-to dining destination.

Grand-opening plans call for raffles, exclusive merch and other promotions, mirroring the brand’s party-forward launch playbook. Fans can track updates on social media or through the company’s website. For more details, including menus and operating hours, visit Cheba Hut.
