Rockville’s hotpot scene just got a serious spice boost. Feng Hotpot has quietly set up shop on East Montgomery Avenue, taking over the space once occupied by Hot Pot City and beginning service in March. The new spot leans into interactive table-side hotpot, complete with a build-your-own sauce bar and bubble tea. Diners will find a lineup of signature broths, including Sichuan mala, rich beef tallow, mushroom, and tomato, along with house-made items such as lobster balls, shrimp paste, and handmade dumplings.
As reported by The MoCo Show on Friday, Feng Hotpot has moved into 199 E. Montgomery Avenue, quietly opening its doors in March. That early write-up highlights the range of broth choices and classic hotpot staples on the menu and notes that the brand traces its roots back to Chengdu. The piece was among the first local mentions flagging the arrival of the new restaurant.
According to Feng Hotpot, founder Feng Mingqiang started the brand in Chengdu’s Taikouli district, where the original shop became known for “15 table turnovers in a single day” and lines that stretched into hours-long waits. The chain’s site lays out its calling card: slow-simmered broths, hand-made specialties, and a DIY sauce bar, an approach it says has been carried over to its U.S. locations. The Rockville entry on the company website lists the new outpost’s address and operating hours.
Per the Montgomery County Board of License Commissioners agenda, county records show a March 19, 2026 hearing for the transfer of a Class H (beer and wine) license for “the premises known as Feng Hotpot” at 199 East Montgomery Avenue, Suite D. That kind of filing is a standard step for restaurants that want to serve alcohol in Montgomery County and suggests the operators were working on local approvals around the time of the opening. Public licensing documents like these are often used to track new restaurant permits and upcoming debuts.
Where It Fits In Rockville
Feng is jumping into a crowded Rockville hotpot roster, where sit-down spots such as Urban Hot Pot and Hulu Skewer & Hot Pot already draw steady lines. Those destinations range from conveyor-style all-you-can-eat setups to skewer-focused grills with hotpot on the side, so Feng is entering a market with plenty of existing choices. For groups and late-night diners, the cluster of hotpot options has helped turn Rockville into a regional stop for communal, simmer-at-your-table meals.
Feng Hotpot's locations page lists Rockville’s hours as Monday through Sunday, noon to 10 p.m., and includes a contact phone number. The company highlights group dining and shareable dishes across its menu, and the Rockville restaurant appears to be set up for the same interactive format featured at its other branches. Locals can keep an eye on the website for menu updates and any details on reservations.
