A late-night stretch of road in Cheraw turned deadly when a 20-year-old man was shot and killed, and three Chesterfield County teenagers were arrested in the aftermath, authorities said.

Deputies with the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office were called to Brangus Lane, where they found a wrecked pickup and the victim, later identified as Landon Scott Sellers. The arrests followed an investigation that began at that scene, according to officials.

Arrests and charges

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office said three teens have been charged in connection with the shooting, as reported by WCNC.

Maurice Michael Brown Jr. is charged with obstruction of justice. Zion Elijah McRae and Elisjay Zayon Christian James are charged with assault and first-degree battery and "breach of peace in an aggravated nature." All three charges stem from the same shooting investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.

What investigators say

Investigators say the gunfire involved vehicles in the 200 block of Shorthorn Road, with shots reported both toward Sellers' vehicle and from Sellers' vehicle. A short time later, deputies found the wrecked pickup on Brangus Lane, where they also found Sellers.

"The investigation remains active and additional charges are pending," the sheriff’s office said, according to WCNC. Detectives are still sorting out the sequence of events and are asking anyone who saw or recorded anything in the area to come forward.
