The agenda notes the case was postponed several times before the April hearing and that a karaoke café can be a permitted use in a C2 General Retail Business District as long as noise is contained on site.
Owners Pitch It As A Neighborhood Spot
As reported by Signal Cleveland's Cleveland Documenters, sworn testimony from Nikko FungChung and Kevin Willard described the operation as focused on gaming and social nights rather than large, noisy events. FungChung and Willard told the board karaoke would be limited to Saturdays, with comedy and poetry on Fridays, and that they had not received neighborhood complaints during outreach. Signal Cleveland's meeting notes state that the board unanimously approved the variance requests.

An event listing on The Gas Station website promotes recurring "Light Up The Mic" karaoke nights at 5011 Clark Ave and shows dates and registration for Saturday evenings, indicating the venue had programmed karaoke before securing the zoning variance. That on site history was part of the applicants' case that the use fits the block rather than introducing a new late night destination.
