A tense encounter on Cleveland’s East Side ended with a crash and a suspect in handcuffs Saturday, after a man allegedly opened fire on police officers and left one officer wounded by shrapnel, authorities said.
According to police, the suspect’s vehicle later crashed in the 15600 block of Chagrin Boulevard, where officers moved in and took him into custody at the scene.

Cleveland police confirmed that the shooting unfolded near Fleet Avenue. Cleveland Police Patrolmen Union President Andy Gasiewski told the station that “allegedly someone shot at the officers’ car on Fleet Avenue,” according to shot at the officers’ car. That report notes that one officer was hit by shrapnel and that officers tracked down the suspect after his vehicle crashed on Chagrin Boulevard. The suspect is now in custody.
