Commerce City drivers might want to think twice before leaving their cars on the street on Monday morning. The city is gearing up for its 60th Annual Memorial Day Parade, and with it come no-parking zones, rolling roadblocks, and the very real possibility of getting towed if you are parked in the wrong spot.

Parking along the marked parade route is prohibited starting at 7:00 a.m., with several blocks along East 64th Avenue and nearby streets closed to traffic during the morning procession. City officials say any vehicles still parked on the route after the posted time are subject to towing.

Route and schedule

According to the City of Commerce City, the day begins with a ceremony at 8:45 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial. The 1.5-mile parade steps off at 9:30 a.m.

The route starts at E. 64th Avenue and Newport Street, heads west on E. 64th to Holly Street, turns south to E. 62nd Avenue, then continues west on Parkway Drive before wrapping up near the Eagle Pointe Recreation Center. The city estimates the parade, plus the celebration and concert that follow, will finish at around 11:30 a.m.

Road closures and parking

Commerce City Police have posted a detailed map and advisory on Facebook, noting that streets marked on the map will have parking prohibited beginning at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, May 25. Those same streets are expected to be closed to traffic from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 11:30 a.m., per the Commerce City Police Department on Facebook.

The department is blunt in its warning to residents to “move your vehicle before 7:00am to avoid being towed” and is urging drivers to use alternate routes while the parade is in motion.

Plan your trip

If you are heading to the parade or just passing through Commerce City on Monday, expect detours, delays, and limited curbside parking. Organizers recommend arriving early or parking off the route and walking into the event area to avoid last minute headaches.

After the parade, the city will host a concert with food trucks and family activities at Veterans Memorial Park. Residents with questions can contact Marisela Torres at [email protected], according to the City of Commerce City.
