A quiet stretch of rural Comanche County has turned into the center of a homicide investigation after police say an Indiahoma man admitted to shooting another man and leaving his body in a nearby field. Officers arrested 38-year-old Frank Reed Poafpybitty after residents helped track down a truck linked to the killing, and he was later found hiding in a garage in Cache. Investigators say the victim's body was discovered in a field off Townley Road near Indiahoma Road.
What police allege
Court documents reviewed by KSWO state that Poafpybitty told officers he and the victim got into an argument before he followed the man to his truck with a rifle. According to those documents, Poafpybitty admitted firing into the driver's side of the vehicle. The truck then crashed into a fence, and the wounded man was pulled from the vehicle. Deputies later reported finding a rifle and clothing with apparent bloodstains at the scene.
How the arrest unfolded
According to the Cache Police Department, neighbors played a key role in helping officers locate the truck they believed was tied to the shooting, as reported by KFOR. Poafpybitty was eventually found hiding in a garage on E. Avenue in Cache and was taken into custody without injuries. Authorities told investigators that the initial caller said Poafpybitty had admitted to the shooting. Officers then followed tire tracks from the truck into a nearby field, where they say they found the victim's body.
Charges and possible penalties
Officials say Poafpybitty is facing counts of first-degree murder, unlawful removal of a dead body and unauthorized use of a vehicle. If convicted, he could face life in prison or the death penalty, according to KSWO. Prosecutors in Comanche County will decide how to formally file the case and whether to pursue capital punishment as the investigation moves forward.
Investigation continues
Cache police said Sgt. Salazar and Officer Jones secured the crime scene while detectives processed evidence, according to details shared with KFOR. The Comanche County Sheriff's Office and Cache Police Department say the case remains active and they are urging anyone with information to step up.
