Recent context
The alert comes on the heels of several high-profile incidents involving Fort Worth officers. That episode put additional public attention on the Civilian Response Unit and on how the department reviews use-of-force cases.
Investigation and policy
Officer-involved shootings in Fort Worth are typically handled by the department's Major Case Unit and Internal Affairs. Under department policy, officers involved may be placed on administrative “Significant Event Leave” while investigations move forward, a process described in a prior news release from the Fort Worth Police Department.
In its initial post on X, the Fort Worth Police Department said public information officers at the complex would share more as it is confirmed. The department also uses its social media accounts to post updates on major incidents, and the X post marks the first public notification of this shooting.
