A 50-year-old man is being held without bond after South Miami police say he tailed a woman from a Brickell gym, then exposed himself to her while stopped on South Dixie Highway last Friday. Investigators say the woman gave detectives a license plate number and a detailed description that led to an arrest this week.
According to WSVN, detectives identified the suspect as 50-year-old Rogerio Miranda De Souza and charged him with indecent exposure. Investigators say the woman had just left a gym in Brickell when a gray Tesla Model Y followed her southbound along South Dixie Highway and stopped near Southwest 70th Street, where the driver allegedly committed a lewd act while looking directly at her. Police say the victim's account, including the Tesla's tag number and her description of the driver, helped them track down Miranda De Souza.
How police say the incident unfolded
Detectives say the driver first tried to get the woman's attention before allegedly committing the lewd act, then took off. Investigators believe there could be additional victims who have not yet come forward. They are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact South Miami police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
What the charge means
Indecent exposure in Florida is covered under Section 800.03 of the state statutes, which generally treats a first offense as a first-degree misdemeanor and increases penalties for repeat violations. Florida Statute 800.03 also lists exceptions, such as breastfeeding, and explains how punishment escalates for later offenses.
Court records show Miranda De Souza was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. At a Thursday hearing, a judge found probable cause, ordered him held without bond and issued a stay-away order for the victim, according to WSVN. Police say another law enforcement agency is investigating a similar case involving the same suspect.
Anyone who may have seen the vehicle or the incident, especially anyone who recorded video in the Brickell area or along South Dixie Highway last Friday, is urged to call South Miami police or Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477, or submit an anonymous tip at CrimeStoppers305.com. Detectives say tips and video could help identify other possible victims and strengthen the case.
