A 36-year-old West Palm Beach man is behind bars after deputies say he opened fire on a home early on May 1, sending bullets through a window and into a bedroom where his sister and her infant were sleeping. Both were hospitalized and the suspect is now in custody.
What Deputies Found
Palm Beach County deputies were called to the scene shortly before 6 a.m. on May 1 and found a woman with gunshot wounds to her leg and foot, and an infant with a gunshot wound to the leg. Both were rushed to St. Mary's Medical Center for emergency treatment. Their conditions were not immediately released, according to WPEC.
Evidence At The Scene And The Arrest
Investigators recovered both handgun and rifle shell casings near the front of the residence and documented multiple bullet holes in a front window, which they say is consistent with rounds being fired from outside. Surveillance footage reviewed by deputies reportedly shows a man in a light-colored hooded sweatshirt running from the home and getting into a vehicle. Deputies later located that vehicle and arrested 36-year-old Marvin Davilmar at a home on Buccaneer Trail, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office (PBSO).
Charges And Booking
Jail records list Davilmar as booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, seven counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and one count of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. Court documents referenced in reporting state that Davilmar has prior convictions, including burglary and possession of cocaine, and that those prior convictions would have prohibited him from legally possessing firearms, according to WPEC.
Legal Context And Next Steps
Under Florida law, convicted felons are barred from possessing firearms or ammunition, a restriction outlined in state statutes (Florida Statutes). The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says the investigation remains active and is asking anyone with information to contact investigators directly or submit tips through the agency's website (PBSO).
