Tuesday’s morning rush on Jamaica Avenue turned ugly when two senior men were assaulted and pepper-sprayed in front of a commercial building at 74-08 Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven, police said.
The attack happened at about 7:48 a.m. The victims are described as men ages 68 and 72. The attacker took off on foot and was last seen heading south on Eldert Lane, according to police.
Police Circulate Wanted Bulletin
According to NYPD Crime Stoppers, detectives have released a “WANTED FOR AN ASSAULT” bulletin that lists the time and location of the incident and notes that the assailant used pepper spray. The post urges anyone with footage or information to come forward to investigators.
How To Report Tips And Possible Reward
Per the city’s Crime Stoppers program, tipsters can call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), submit an internet tip through the online portal, or use the department’s mobile app. Spanish-language tips are available at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). The program offers rewards of up to $3,500 for anonymous information that leads to an arrest and indictment, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.
Neighbors And Surveillance Sought
Detectives routinely ask local businesses and residents along Jamaica Avenue to check door-cam and security footage for short windows of video that could help identify a suspect, a tactic they have used in earlier cases. An 88-year-old floored in a springtime Jamaica Avenue sidewalk attack prompted a similar push for footage and witness tips.
What To Do If You Saw Something
As of the latest bulletin, no suspect has been publicly identified and the investigation remains active. Anyone with information or video is asked to preserve it and contact Crime Stoppers through NYPD Crime Stoppers, message @NYPDTips on X, or call 1-800-577-TIPS.
