A Cypress-area lottery player quietly turned a quick stop for a scratch-off into a seven-figure payday, claiming a $1 million top prize from a $1,000,000 Riches ticket bought at Victory Liquor & Smoke in northwest Houston. The winning claim was processed on Monday, and the Texas Lottery has not released the winner's identity. The score adds yet another million-dollar scratch-off hit to a growing run of big wins around Houston this spring.
How the prize was confirmed
Per the Texas Lottery retailers list, the winning ticket was sold at Victory Liquor & Smoke at 7350 Jackrabbit Rd, and the claim went through on Monday. The state updates that list once top-prize claims are fully processed at a Texas Lottery claim center. Under the lottery's retailer bonus program, shops that sell top-prize tickets can be eligible for a $10,000 bonus.
As reported by CW39, the ticket came from the $1,000,000 Riches scratch game and became part of a small cluster of recent big-money wins in the area. CW39 noted the claim based on state lottery records.
About the $1,000,000 Riches game
The $1,000,000 Riches scratch-off game advertises four $1 million top prizes and lists overall odds of winning any prize at about one in 3.82, according to the Texas Lottery game page. Game documents show more than $57 million in total prizes and roughly 8.18 million tickets printed.
Victory Liquor & Smoke lists the Jackrabbit Road location on its website and appears to operate a second shop in the Cypress area. The address on the state's retailers list, 7350 Jackrabbit Rd, matches the location shown on the store's site.
A local streak
The Cypress win is the latest in a line of seven-figure scratch-off hits in the Houston region this year. Earlier in the spring, KPRC's Click2Houston reported other $1 million scratch-off winners in the area. Those jackpots, like this one, have briefly turned everyday convenience stores and liquor shops into local hot spots for lottery hopefuls.
