One person was found shot to death outside a home on Woodlawn Street in Kannapolis on Tuesday afternoon, pulling a normally uneventful block into the center of a homicide investigation, according to police. Officers discovered the victim around 4:30 p.m., and the person was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said there is no ongoing threat to the public and confirmed the case is being treated as an active killing investigation.
Kannapolis police have not released the victim's name and have not said what led up to the shooting, the department told WCNC. Officers cordoned off the area while detectives collected evidence and spoke with neighbors, according to the station's report.
Police Response and Community Tips
Kannapolis officers remained on scene as detectives processed evidence and canvassed nearby homes for witnesses, the department said. According to the Kannapolis Police Department, investigators are asking anyone who was in the Woodlawn Street area Tuesday afternoon, or who may have security camera or doorbell video, to contact them. Residents can find phone numbers and case updates on the department's public page.
Recent Shootings in the City
The killing is the latest in a string of violent incidents in Kannapolis in recent weeks, including an April house shooting that left a man dead, Hoodline reported. In those earlier cases, authorities urged residents to share doorbell and dash-cam footage to help detectives piece together timelines, and local officials have said they will release more information on the investigations as it becomes available.
So far, police have not identified a suspect in Tuesday's shooting, and no arrests have been announced, WCNC reported. The department says the investigation remains active and that additional details will be shared when they are ready to be released.
