
A quiet early Sunday in Southeast Washington turned grim when a 23-year-old man was discovered shot to death inside an apartment, triggering a full-scale homicide investigation. The killing, in the city’s Seventh District, has left many residents on edge as detectives work to piece together what happened. DC Fire and EMS responded alongside police, but the case remains very much open.
What police say
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Seventh District officers were called around 2:30 a.m. to the 2700 block of Robinson Place SE for reports of gunfire. Officers went into an apartment and found an adult man suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene, police said.
Victim identified and investigation details
Shore News Network reports that the victim has been identified as 23-year-old Ashton Manigan of Suitland, Maryland. Investigators have not announced any suspects or a possible motive. Detectives are still gathering evidence and interviewing potential witnesses as they work to track down whoever is responsible.

The department is asking anyone with information to "take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department's TEXT TIP LINE at 50411," according to the Metropolitan Police Department release. MPD also offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in homicide cases in the District.
