A routine hospital escort turned into a strange chase on Detroit’s west side yesterday, when a driver allegedly tailed a marked police cruiser and then rammed it near Grand River and Evergreen while officers were taking a woman to Sinai-Grace Hospital. The suspect stayed close behind the patrol car before colliding with it, and officers were able to continue on to the Detroit Police Department’s 8th Precinct, where additional units helped take the driver into custody. Authorities have not publicly explained why the driver followed the police vehicle.
As reported by The Metro Detroit News, officers had been escorting a woman to DMC Sinai-Grace when the suspect pulled in close and struck their cruiser near the intersection. According to the outlet, officers at the 8th Precinct then assisted in subduing and arresting the driver after the escorting unit made it back to the station.
