A dawn confrontation near Civic Garden in downtown Dallas ended with a teenager being shot and the alleged robbery target also injured, according to police. Officers say yesterday's struggle left both the juvenile suspect and the man he is accused of trying to rob in the hospital with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries. The Dallas Police Department says the investigation is still active.
As reported by FOX 4, officers were called around 7 a.m. to Commerce Street near Civic Garden after a man said a group robbed him and chased him across multiple spots downtown. During a physical fight, the man pulled out a gun and shot one of the alleged suspects, who police have identified only as a juvenile. Both the teen and the reported robbery victim were taken to local hospitals, and police have not announced any additional arrests or whether anyone will ultimately face charges.
Downtown Safety Under Scrutiny
The incident lands in the middle of a tense moment for downtown and nearby nightlife districts. Just days earlier, a separate pair of overnight shootings in Deep Ellum left a security guard dead and several others wounded, putting fresh pressure on city officials and business owners over late-night safety. Early-May violence in the neighborhood has already led to stepped-up police patrols and revived calls for tighter rules on late-night venues, according to reporting from NBC 5.
Police Response and Juvenile Privacy
Dallas police told FOX 4 they will not release the teen suspect’s name because of the suspect’s age. Texas law typically shields juvenile records from public view and spells out limited situations where identifying information can be disclosed. Those rules are outlined in Texas Family Code Chapter 58, which governs how juvenile records are created and when they may be made public.
