Downtown Houston is officially getting in on the fried chicken action. Layne's Chicken Fingers is opening its first restaurant in the city's central business district this week, sliding into a ground-floor spot at 609 Main. Franchisee Masroor Fatany, who first brought Layne's to the Houston area in 2021, is behind the new location, which hosted a soft opening today ahead of a full grand opening on Monday. Organizers say Monday's festivities will feature free Layne's swag and a year's worth of chicken fingers for the first 50 guests in line.
Where It's Located
The new shop sits on the Fannin Street side of 609 Main, the 48-story office tower that occupies an entire city block. Layne's lists the downtown restaurant at 609 Main St., Suite 175, and has posted hours for the spot, according to Layne's Chicken Fingers. The building's position plugs the restaurant directly into downtown's pedestrian corridors and transit connections.
Franchisee Calls It "A Perfect Address"
Fatany said he had been eyeing a downtown location for a while and called 609 Main "a perfect address," pointing to the building's national tenants and the cluster of nearby restaurants, according to the Houston Chronicle. He added that the downtown outpost will skip the drive-thru and close earlier than some other Layne's units, though the menu will still feature the brand's regular and spicy chicken fingers, crinkle-cut fries and milkshakes.
The Houston Operator
Fatany leads Houston-based AYG Food Services, which operates both Layne's Chicken Fingers and The Halal Guys across the region, according to the company's site. That local reach, combined with his existing restaurant experience, helped set up the group to take on a downtown location, the company notes on its website, AYG Food Services.
Layne's Expansion Push
The downtown debut is part of a broader expansion streak. Layne's said this year it awarded more than 50 new restaurants and inked deals to move into markets such as California, North Carolina and Pennsylvania, according to a company release. The brand's steady march across Texas has been closely watched too, including a recent Brownsville opening highlighted in Brownsville Nabs First Layne's and the company's announcement on PR Newswire.
Opening Week Details
The downtown location held its soft opening on Thursday and will officially throw open the doors Monday at 10 a.m., with the first 50 guests eligible for free Layne's merchandise and a full year of chicken, according to the Houston Chronicle. Fatany said he is counting on the site's walkability and proximity to MetroRail to make it a reliable lunch and after-work stop for downtown workers and nearby residents.
