Las Vegas Jerkys, the family-run gift-and-snack shop beloved by downtown regulars for island-style jerky and Karen’s Gourmet bagel chips, is getting ready to double up. The business plans to launch a second storefront along East Charleston Boulevard later this year, shifting its Hawaiian-flavored goodies from the Plaza crowd to a neighborhood mini-mall and putting its snacks within easier reach of east-side shoppers. Family members close to the business say this new spot will be a compact retail window, not a full production kitchen.
Where It's Going
According to WhatNow, City of Las Vegas permit records list Las Vegas Jerkys as the tenant at 3100 E. Charleston Blvd., Unit 104, with an anticipated opening noted as "later this year." The outlet reported that owner Kyrce Higa's mother confirmed the plan in an interview. Those permit filings are the first public sign that the company is stepping beyond its long-standing downtown footprint.
Downtown Roots
Per the shop's own site, Las Vegas Jerkys has been "family owned and operated since 1991" and runs a third-floor location at the Plaza Hotel & Casino downtown. The Plaza Hotel & Casino also shows a gift-store footprint on the hotel's third floor, where the company has long offered Islander Brand jerky, dried seafood, candies, nuts and Karen’s Gourmet baked goods. That blend of souvenirs and snack staples has turned the Plaza shop into a go-to stop for visitors looking to grab gifts before heading home.
What To Expect
The Charleston outpost is expected to operate as a small retail window centered on grab-and-go items rather than a large, full-scale storefront, similar to how the Plaza location functions. The Mini Mall at Charleston appears in local business listings, according to MapQuest, as a compact strip of neighborhood shops along East Charleston Boulevard, and the permit address puts the new unit near a cluster of service businesses and eateries. No firm opening date has been announced yet, with the permit's "later this year" note standing as the only public timeline so far.
