A neighborhood familiar with gun violence
East Garfield Park has seen multiple deadly shootings this year, including a late-March double homicide reported in a late-March double homicide. The area also suffered a mass drive-by on Halloween 2022 that wounded 14 people, including three children, as documented by WTTW. In response, community groups have repeatedly organized outreach efforts and peace walks. Neighbors say the recurring shootings leave residents on edge and strain already limited local resources.
Investigation underway
Area Four detectives with the Chicago Police Department are investigating, and no arrests were reported immediately, according to FOX 32 Chicago. The outlet also noted that, as of Friday morning, the Cook County medical examiner had not identified the victims. Police have asked anyone with information to contact investigators as they continue to piece together what led to the shooting.
What's next
The case remains under investigation, and neighbors say they are hoping for answers and increased patrols in the days ahead. This story will be updated if officials release the victims' names or announce any arrests.
